Creating a Safe Environment for All

With the recent rise in children who have life threatening food allergies to peanuts and nuts, The Albrook School has chosen to provide a nut-free environment. It is our goal to keep all children in a safe environment, and we will accommodate any child with these types of allergies.

Parents are asked to notify the school in writing of any food allergies. Allergy forms need to be completed by your child's physician and submitted to the school along with any emergency medications needed. The school nurse will arrange a meeting in early September to set up a plan of care for the child.

Special Snacks and Lunches

The Albrook School became"nut-free" several years ago. This means that all snacks and lunches must not be made with nuts or manufactured in a plant with nuts. We request that all parents read the manufacturer's label on all products to see what is in the snack or lunch they are providing for their child. Some products may not have nuts identified in the title, but may have been cross-contaminated on shared equipment. While this may not seem like much, even a cross with peanut dust can be enough to put a child in danger of food allergies.

The best way to determine if the item you wish to purchase is nut-free is to read the label. Most brands have a warning statement or allergen list. Be aware of phrases like this:

"May Contain Peanut or Tree Nuts"
"Processed on shared equipment with Peanuts or Tree Nuts"
"Manufactured in a plant with Peanut or Tree Nuts"
"Contains Peanut or Tree Nut Ingredients"

Product formulations may change, so always double check the package to ensure that the item is not processed in a facility that also processes nuts.

Peace Of Pizza

Join our fundraising efforts by purchasing pizza. It is a reminder that we should strive to focus on having more PEACE in our day by showing empathy and respect to all. Pizza will be available every Tuesday this year starting 9/17/19 and ending 5/19/20. Our hope is to create a more PEACEful morning by giving you a break from preparing lunch one day a week!

For your convenience, all orders will be placed online through SchoolSpeak under the APA section. If you are part of our Albrook Family, please sign into for further information and to place your order.

Fresh Fruits & Vegetables

Fresh fruits and vegetables will create a healthy lunch or snack for your child. By cutting them into fun bite-size pieces and placing them into individual small zip-lock bags or a container with sections, they will be easier for your young child to eat. Many veggies would be great dipped into hummus or nut-free salad dressing.
