APA

The Albrook Parents' Association (APA) plays a vital role in the life of The Albrook School through its community building events, volunteer efforts and fundraising activities. All parents of students attending Albrook are automatically members of the APA.

Throughout the year, the APA hosts a number of events to help foster community within Albrook. Everyone is encouraged to get the most from your family's Albrook experience by participating in these events:

First Week of School Welcome Coffees - A chance for parents to catch up with old friends, meet new friends and sign up for events for the coming year.

APA Fall Meeting - An opportunity for parents to hear more about events currently planned for the year, to offer ideas and to volunteer time.

Halloween Parade Coffee - The APA offers refreshments while parents mingle prior to the school Halloween parade.

Winter Breakfast - A winter themed breakfast where parents and children can socialize and enjoy a fun-filled magic show.

Spring Event - One of the highlights of the year for Albrook parents! This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and teachers to spend an evening together and show their support for The Albrook School.

APA Spring Meeting - A meeting to recap the year, offer suggestions for improvement for next year and thank all of the year's volunteers for their time and effort.

Beyond the school curriculum, the APA is pleased to provide volunteers and financial support for programs and equipment to enhance the Albrook experience for our children and their teachers. Our children benefit from the APA funding of wonderful field trips, special presentations and upgrades to school facilities, such as playground and computer equipment. The APA Gardening and Decorating volunteers work closely with Ms. Albers to add beautiful seasonal flowers and decorations throughout the school. The APA also funds the printing costs for the classroom calendars, which are distributed to every child at the beginning of the school year, and the cost of pet supplies for the classroom pets.

In support of our wonderful teachers, the APA provides funding for the Teachers' Wish Lists and the Teacher Education Fund and provides volunteers for the school library and material making committees. Additionally, the APA hosts the annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon, an event honoring our entire staff with a delicious homemade lunch (served by APA volunteers) and special gifts.

In recent years, the APA is pleased to have significantly funded the Albrook Endowment fund. This fund is used for partial scholarships given to students in the Kindergarten and Elementary programs based on both merit and need.

To support these and other programs, the APA runs a number of fundraisers throughout the year. In addition to the Spring Event, the following fundraisers are currently being planned for the 2013-14 school year:

Book Fair – This is an opportunity to purchase quality books and other items for your family and for your child's classroom. This year's Book Fair will be held December 10th through the 12th.

Stephen Taylor Family Portraits – An opportunity for Albrook families to have a portrait taken throughout the year by an outstanding local photographer.

Box Tops for Education – Volunteers trim and collate box top coupons clipped by families as well as encourage on-line shopping to benefit Albrook.

Everyone is encouraged to become more involved with Albrook through the APA. Volunteering offers you the chance to make a positive impact on the school community while sharing your talents, meeting other parents and having fun. There are many ways and opportunities to contribute- from volunteering a small amount of time at an event to chairing a committee, to serving on the APA Board.
